2026 Florida insurance reform: what buyers need to know
The 2026 Florida insurance package, signed in late March, introduces a state reinsurance backstop and revised wind-mitigation credits for homes built before 2002.
For buyers, the practical change is this: pre-2002 single-family homes will see meaningful premium reductions if they upgrade to current code on roofing, openings, and water entry — typically a $40-80K capital expenditure that recoups in 4-6 years of premium savings.
We're now including a wind-mitigation cost projection in every offer package on pre-2002 homes. Talk to us before you waive inspection on a coastal property.
